Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains what information Confab collects when you use the Confab iOS or Android app (the "Service"), how that information is used, and the choices you have. Confab is operated by Rahul Nikambe ("we", "us"). By using the Service you agree to this policy.
1. What we collect
Information you provide
- Profile data: display name, role, company, LinkedIn URL, and career goal (all optional).
- Profile picture: optional, selected from your photo library. Stored on your device.
- Practice content: audio and (optionally) video recordings you make while rehearsing.
Information we process to power features
- Transcripts and metrics: generated from your recordings — pace (words per minute), filler-word counts, vocabulary diversity, clarity scores.
- On-camera presence signals: if you turn on video, Confab analyzes frames to estimate eye contact and composure. No face images are stored after analysis.
Information we do not collect
- We do not collect location data.
- We do not collect contacts or calendar data.
- We do not use third-party advertising or analytics trackers.
- We do not sell your data to anyone, for any reason.
2. How we use your information
- To transcribe your recordings and generate coaching feedback.
- To calculate progress over time and show you weekly digests.
- To personalize grammar and vocabulary suggestions to your speaking patterns.
- To respond to support requests you send us.
Your recordings are used to generate your feedback. They are not used to train general AI models.
3. Where your data lives
The majority of your data — profile, transcripts, scores, saved sessions — is stored locally on your device in encrypted on-device storage. When you delete the app, that data is deleted with it.
When generating feedback, Confab sends your audio recording, its transcript, and — for video sessions — individual frames to the third-party AI services listed below. These calls happen in real time from your device, direct to each provider. Neither your audio, transcript, nor frames pass through or are retained by Confab's own servers — Confab does not operate user-data servers.
4. Third-party services
Confab uses the following services to deliver its core features:
- OpenAI — speech analysis, coaching tips, and on-camera presence scoring via GPT-4o and GPT-4o-mini. Data sent: your session transcript and, for video, individual frame images. OpenAI's API policy states that data sent via the API is not used to train their models. See openai.com/enterprise-privacy.
- Deepgram — speech-to-text transcription with filler-word detection. Data sent: your audio recording. Under our contract with Deepgram, Deepgram processes your audio solely as our service provider under our instructions, and does not use it for its own purposes including model training. - Apple Push Notification Service — used only to deliver your opt-in weekly progress digest.
5. Notifications
Confab requests permission to send notifications only to deliver a weekly progress digest, which you can toggle off at any time in Profile → Settings. We send no promotional notifications.
6. Microphone, camera, and photo access
Confab requests access to your microphone (to record audio practice), camera (to record video practice), and photo library (to set a profile picture). These permissions are used only for the purposes stated. You can revoke any of them at any time in your device's settings.
7. Children's privacy
Confab is intended for users 13 years of age and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, contact us at the email below and we will delete the data.
8. Your rights
- Access and export: you can view all of your data inside the app. Export your saved transcripts at any time from Profile → Saved transcripts.
- Delete: uninstalling the Confab app removes all on-device data. To additionally clear any data held in our support inbox, email us using the address below.
- Correct: edit your profile details at any time inside the app.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy occasionally. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date above. Material changes will be communicated via an in-app notice the next time you open Confab.
